The Cut on Amelia’s Cheek

Chapter 06 - The Cut on Amelia’s Cheek
Dr. Lena Morris examined Amelia inside the library.
The injury required cleaning and a small adhesive strip but no stitches.
Nathan insisted he had thrown the plate toward the wall, not at her.
The dining-room cameras showed Amelia seated beside the impact point.
The plate passed close enough for a fragment to cut her face.
Intent would be considered by investigators.
The effect did not disappear because the plate missed.
Earlier security recordings showed other incidents.
Nathan knocking a phone from Amelia’s hand.
Blocking the apartment elevator after she refused to attend a gala.
Shattering a glass during an argument over trust documents.
No single event had caused her to leave.
Each arrived with apology, exhaustion, and explanations about pressure.
Margaret reinforced every excuse.
“Successful men sometimes react strongly,” she told Amelia.
“The important thing is not to provoke public embarrassment.”

The plate became different because the flash drive was already in Amelia’s hand.
For the first time, Nathan’s aggression occurred beside evidence larger than the marriage.
