Margaret’s First Forgery

Chapter 05 - Margaret’s First Forgery

The oldest file on the drive was a recorded conversation between Evelyn Grant and Margaret Vale.

Evelyn’s voice was weak but clear.

“You changed the beneficiary page.”

Margaret answered.

“I corrected an imbalance.”

“You replaced Amelia with Nathan.”

“They were engaged. It would become one household.”

“No. You do not convert marriage into ownership before it happens.”

The recording ended with Evelyn dismissing Margaret from the trust office.

Three weeks later, Evelyn died following complications from surgery.

Margaret told Charles that no dispute had occurred.

She claimed Evelyn planned to merge Amelia’s property into the future marriage trust.

The altered page disappeared.

Charles believed the original documents remained secure.

They had been hidden inside the river apartment because Evelyn no longer trusted the central archive.

Margaret spent years searching.

She encouraged Nathan to pressure Amelia into selling, renovating, renting, or transferring the apartment.

Every proposal required access to the wall.
