Once investigators separated them, Margaret and Nathan offered conflicting explanations.
Nathan said Margaret assured him the transfer was legally harmless.
Margaret said Nathan insisted on acquiring the property to reassure investors.
Nathan claimed he knew nothing about the archive.
Messages on his phone showed Margaret sent him instructions about the hidden elevator.
Margaret claimed the phrase referred to building maintenance.
A voice note showed Nathan asking:
“Once the wall is gone, does the old guarantee disappear?”
Margaret answered:
“The evidence becomes a rumor.”
Nathan had known more than he admitted.
