Mason Chooses Evidence Over the Company

Chapter 11 - Mason Chooses Evidence Over the Company

Mason initially believed he could save Bennett Home Systems while separating it from Richard.

Grace Lin showed him the numbers.

The company owed suppliers, employees, and tax authorities more than it owned.

Its patents had value.

Its existing structure did not.

Mason could cooperate with investigators, surrender fraudulent assets, and reorganize under employee oversight.

Or he could defend Richard and lose everything in bankruptcy.

Richard called cooperation betrayal.

Mason answered:

“You built my company with money taken under Claire’s name. There is nothing loyal about pretending I earned that foundation.”

He gave investigators passwords, contracts, and messages.

His cooperation reduced his legal exposure but did not erase responsibility for ignoring obvious irregularities.

Mason resigned as chief executive.

Workers elected an interim management committee.
