Diane moved into a small apartment and began counseling.
She wrote Claire letters but sent them only through Naomi until Claire agreed to receive them.
Her first letters asked for forgiveness.
Later letters became more accurate.
I believed avoiding conflict kept the family together.
I now understand that it kept the person creating conflict in control.
Claire eventually agreed to a supervised lunch.
Diane asked before hugging her.
Claire said no.
Her mother cried but accepted the boundary.
At the next lunch, Claire said yes.
