Claire testified after completing cardiac rehabilitation.
Richard’s attorney displayed photographs of him beside her hospital beds throughout childhood.
“You trusted your father.”
“Yes.”
“He cared for you.”
“Yes.”
“He sacrificed for you.”
“Yes.”
“Then why describe him as someone willing to risk your life for money?”
Claire looked toward the jury.
“I am describing the records and the meeting. I do not need to erase every good day to tell the truth about the dangerous ones.”
The attorney asked whether Richard believed enough money would remain for surgery.
“He believed he should decide how much of my safety was excessive.”
Her answer defined the case.
