Dr. Pike’s Two Files

Chapter 12 - Dr. Pike’s Two Files
Investigators searched Dr. Pike’s office and found two medical records for Ruth.
The official file described worsening dementia.
The private file documented normal cognition, medication side effects, and pressure from Celeste to “support family transition.”
Pike also maintained a draft file for Michael.
It described burnout, grief, and impaired judgment.
He had planned to certify Michael temporarily incapable if Michael resisted the guardianship or clinic transfer.
The doctor accepted a plea agreement.
He admitted prescribing sedatives without Ruth’s informed consent and signing conclusions before examinations.
“Why?” the prosecutor asked.
Pike described donations, board positions, and the belief that Celeste’s plan protected the company.
Ruth watched from behind the interview glass.
“He never thought I was ill.”
“No,” Naomi said.
“He thought my rights were negotiable.”
Pike surrendered his license and provided evidence against Celeste and Adrian.
