The Blue Folder

Chapter 06 - The Blue Folder
Police obtained a warrant after the forged signatures and sedative results were documented.
The blue folder was found inside Celeste’s dressing-room safe.
It contained the original deed to Ashford House.
The property did not belong to Michael.
It did not belong to Celeste.
Thomas and Ruth had transferred it years earlier into the Ashford Protection Trust. Ruth held lifetime occupancy rights and authority to remove any resident who endangered an elder or dependent family member.
Celeste knew.
A copy of the trust appeared in the safe with highlighted passages.
The folder also contained a contract to sell the mansion to a resort developer. Celeste had promised delivery within thirty days of Ruth entering residential care.
Her brother Adrian would receive a seven-million-dollar consulting fee.
Michael stared at the sale agreement.
“You planned to sell my mother’s home.”
Celeste answered through her attorney.
“The house costs more to maintain than it is worth.”
Ruth laughed once.
The sound was dry and exhausted.
“You told the newspapers it was your family home.”
Celeste looked away.
Another document transferred the foundation’s elder-care properties into a private operating company controlled by Adrian. If approved, the clinics would pay rent to his company and reduce services to cover the cost.
The woman publicly praised for supporting elder dignity had built a plan that profited from removing elderly people from their homes.
