Marcus’s Deal

Chapter 12 - Marcus’s Deal

Marcus offered to testify against Victoria.

He admitted cutting Anna’s brake line and moving foundation money. He claimed Victoria ordered both.

Prosecutors demanded corroboration.

Marcus provided encrypted messages.

One read:

ANNA WILL NOT STOP. MAKE SURE SHE MISSES MONDAY.

Another:

DO NOT TELL ME DETAILS. I ONLY NEED THE RESULT.

The account belonged to Victoria.

Her attorney argued the messages referred to delaying a board meeting, not harming Anna.

Marcus produced a voice recording.

Victoria said, “If the rain explains it, nobody asks why.”

The recording changed the case.

Victoria had not handled the car.

She had designed the ambiguity.

Marcus expected a reduced sentence.

Then investigators discovered he had arranged the warehouse fire that destroyed financial records and injured a night guard.

His cooperation remained useful.

It did not make him innocent.
