The Grandmother Who Refused to Stay Dead

Chapter 04 - The Grandmother Who Refused to Stay Dead

Eleanor placed the document box on the table.

Inside were Aisha’s original patents, trust papers, and correspondence with federal investigators.

Adrian’s attorneys objected before opening a single page.

Eleanor laughed.

“You always did fear paper more than people.”

She had spent ten years moving between towns after men broke into her home and searched for the Obsidian key.

Official company records listed her as deceased because Adrian used a false certificate to close Aisha’s estate.

Eleanor stayed hidden to keep Malik outside the trust dispute.

She waited until his twelfth birthday because Aisha designed the voting shares to activate only then.

“Why bring him here alone?” Vanessa asked.

“Because every adult who traveled with him would be watched. Adrian’s people look past children in old clothes.”

Malik looked at his grandmother.

“You knew they would laugh at me.”

“I knew they would underestimate you.”

“That is not the same as protecting me.”

Eleanor absorbed the correction.

“No. It isn’t.”

Adrian opened the company-sale agreement.

“The Helix transaction is legally binding. A child cannot disrupt ten years of corporate governance with a toy key.”

The Obsidian screen responded to his voice.

Aisha appeared again.

“Adrian, if you are hearing this, you tried to sell what you stole.”

The guests beyond the glass began receiving copies of the video through the showroom network.

Adrian ordered technicians to shut it down.

The system rejected every administrative command.

Aisha’s final program controlled the building.

She revealed that the key contained only the first layer of evidence.

The second was stored in the car’s event recorder.

To unlock it, Malik had to start the engine.

Adrian’s security chief stepped toward him.

Vanessa moved between them.

“No one touches the boy.”

Her father stared at her.

“You were laughing at him five minutes ago.”

“I was wrong five minutes ago.”

For the first time, Vanessa’s loyalty did not arrive quickly enough to serve Adrian.

The chairman looked toward the black Bugatti.

If Malik started it, the showroom would hear what happened on the night Aisha died.
