The Sale at Midnight

Chapter 08 - The Sale at Midnight
The Helix sale was scheduled to close at midnight despite the investigation.
Adrian’s attorneys argued the transaction protected employees from market collapse.
Malik’s trust attorney requested an emergency injunction.
The court required proof that the Carter shares were valid.
The original trust document in Eleanor’s box carried a damaged seal.
Adrian claimed it had been altered.
Aisha anticipated that challenge.
The black Bugatti’s chassis contained a microscopic engraving of the trust’s full cryptographic signature.
The car had to be dismantled to retrieve it.
Collectors warned that opening the custom chassis would destroy millions in value.
Malik did not hesitate.
“It’s a car. My mom matters more.”
Technicians removed the rear panel.
Beneath the carbon fiber was the signature.
The court froze the sale at 11:58 p.m.
Two minutes later, Helix transferred its purchase funds into offshore accounts and announced bankruptcy protection.
The company had never intended to buy Sterling Crown honestly.
It planned to absorb Aisha’s technology, then dissolve both companies.
Vanessa reviewed internal communications.
Her father would receive a private payment of eighty million dollars after closing.
She also found an account in her name.
Ten million.
Adrian had used her as a silent beneficiary.
Vanessa disclosed it publicly and surrendered the funds.
Reporters asked whether she expected praise.
“No,” she said. “Returning stolen money is not generosity.”

Malik heard the interview.
For the first time, he believed she might be changing rather than performing change.
