Celeste’s Letter

Chapter 17 - Celeste’s Letter

Four years into her sentence, Celeste wrote Emily through a court-approved program.

She admitted that she enjoyed the moment Julian took her hand.

For years, Vivian had made her feel like the rightful woman waiting outside someone else’s life.

When Emily fell, Celeste believed the world had finally corrected itself.

“I saw your pain as proof that I had won,” she wrote. “That is the part I regret most.”

The letter asked for nothing.

Emily read it once and placed it inside the restricted archive.

She did not respond.

Celeste later assisted investigators with other Hartwell accounts.
