The Prenuptial Page Emily Never Signed

Chapter 03 - The Prenuptial Page Emily Never Signed

Three weeks before the wedding, Emily found an unfamiliar page inside the prenuptial agreement.

It transferred every inheritance connected to Laura Rhodes into a marital holding company controlled by Julian and Vivian.

Emily’s signature appeared at the bottom.

She had not signed it.

When she questioned Julian, he said the page was standard language added by the lawyers.

Vivian called Emily anxious and suggested postponing public appearances until after the wedding.

Then a physician Emily had never met submitted a private report describing her as emotionally unstable.

The report stated that marriage to Julian would provide “necessary family supervision.”

Emily understood the plan.

The wedding was not designed to make her a Hartwell.

It was designed to make her property legally manageable.

She contacted Arthur’s former trustee, Samuel Price.

Samuel revealed the existence of the founder’s chair archive and the rejection clause.

The clause required the Hartwells to expose their intent publicly.

If Emily simply canceled the wedding, Vivian could claim the forged documents were administrative errors.

So Emily walked down the aisle.

She waited through the vows.

She allowed Julian to believe she knew nothing.

The ceremony became evidence.

In the ballroom, Ortiz collected the false prenuptial page.

A handwriting expert later confirmed that Celeste’s assistant copied Emily’s signature from a hotel charity form.

Celeste stared at Julian.

“You told me Emily signed away the Rhodes claim voluntarily.”

Julian said nothing.

Celeste had believed she was returning to the position Vivian once promised her.

She had not known the family needed her seated in Laura’s chair to create the appearance of an alternate successor.

Emily did not excuse her.

Celeste had smiled while Emily lay on the floor.

Being deceived did not erase the cruelty she chose.

But Celeste was not the architect.

Vivian was.

And the metal box contained more than ownership papers.

It held a recent photograph of Laura Rhodes.
