Serena’s Version of Love

Chapter 12 - Serena’s Version of Love

Serena’s trial focused partly on the mansion.

Her attorneys showed photographs of her reading to Lily, organizing birthdays, and attending school events.

Some moments had been real.

That made the betrayal harder, not smaller.

Serena testified that she loved Lily and believed strict routines were necessary.

The prosecutor asked whether love required locking food away.

Serena said the child had behavioral problems.

The false therapy notes appeared on screen.

They had been written before the alleged behavior occurred.

The jury heard school staff describe Lily before Serena took control: curious, social, and confident.

They heard how she became quiet and fearful.

Serena claimed Adrian neglected the family and left her with impossible responsibility.

Adrian testified.

“I traveled too much. I trusted reports instead of my child. Those failures are mine. They do not make what Serena did treatment.”

The distinction mattered.

Serena was convicted of child endangerment, fraud, conspiracy, and evidence tampering.

She received a substantial sentence.

Lily did not attend.

No child should have to perform pain in public to make adults believe a documented record.
