Serena’s Letter

Chapter 19 - Serena’s Letter
Five years into her sentence, Serena wrote to Lily through a court-approved service.
She admitted restricting food and creating false records.
She said she had convinced herself that keeping control of the trust would protect the foundation from Adrian’s business decisions.
The letter did not ask Lily to forgive her.
Lily read it at age thirteen with a counselor.
She felt anger, sadness, and confusion because she remembered genuine moments of affection.
The counselor explained that harmful people could also create warm memories.
One truth did not cancel the other.
Serena asked whether Lily might visit someday.
Lily wrote:
Not now. Maybe never. I decide.
The service delivered the answer.
