The House Staff Speak

Chapter 17 - The House Staff Speak
Several former mansion employees asked to meet Lily.
Her advocate reviewed each request.
Lily agreed to speak with the cook who hid fruit in her backpack.
The woman apologized for not doing more.
“I was afraid Serena would fire me.”
Lily asked, “Did you know I was hungry?”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn’t you call Dad?”
“I thought Mr. Shaw knew better. I thought someone important had approved it.”
Lily looked at Adrian.
He did not interrupt.
The cook’s answer revealed how status silenced judgment.
Lily chose not to meet the housekeeper who repeatedly told her to stop complaining.
That boundary was respected.
The employees entered a workplace-accountability program.
Those who preserved evidence received protection.
Those who knowingly participated faced consequences.
