The Woman in the Old Photograph

Chapter 05 - The Woman in the Old Photograph
While investigators searched Serena’s office, Marcus found a locked drawer containing photographs of Olivia.
Some were taken after the date of the plane crash.
One showed Olivia leaving a rural medical center with a bandage around her head.
Another showed her watching Lily’s preschool from across the street.
Adrian felt the floor shift beneath him.
The crash report had said Olivia died instantly.
No verified remains were ever returned because the aircraft burned in a remote mountain valley.
Victor handled the insurance claim and memorial arrangements.
Serena, then Olivia’s closest friend, stayed with Adrian through the funeral.
Detective Ortiz enlarged the latest photograph.
It was dated eight months earlier.
Olivia stood outside Greenhaven Recovery Center under the name Patient O-17.
The center belonged to Northway Family Institute.
Serena and Victor had not only stolen money from Bright Table.
They may have kept Olivia alive under a false identity.
Lily saw the photograph.
“That’s the lady from the park.”
Adrian turned.
“What lady?”
“She watched me feed the ducks last year. Mrs. Vale said she was confused and I shouldn’t talk to her.”
Lily remembered the woman humming the same bedtime song Olivia used when she was small.
Serena had pulled Lily away before they spoke.
Ortiz obtained a warrant for Greenhaven.
The clinic director claimed Patient O-17 had been discharged that morning.
No destination was listed.
Security footage showed Victor escorting a dark-haired woman into a van at 6:14 a.m.—hours before Adrian found Lily in the pantry.
They had moved Olivia because the trust deadline had arrived.

The van’s tracker ended near an abandoned Bright Table food warehouse.
The building was scheduled for demolition the next day.
