The Warehouse of Empty Lunchboxes

Chapter 06 - The Warehouse of Empty Lunchboxes

Police entered the old warehouse with medical responders and child-welfare investigators.

Rows of unused lunchboxes filled the main floor. Each bore the Bright Table sun logo.

Invoices showed they had been purchased for schools that never received them.

In a locked office, investigators found Olivia.

She was alive, underweight, and disoriented from long-term medication, but she recognized Adrian immediately.

“Where is Lily?”

“Safe.”

“With you?”

“Yes.”

Olivia studied his face.

“Did you believe them?”

Adrian knew what she meant.

“Yes.”

She looked away.

Victor told Olivia that Adrian remarried quickly, surrendered the trust, and wanted no contact. He showed her false court orders declaring her mentally incompetent after the crash.

Serena visited twice a year pretending to be a legal advocate.

She pressured Olivia to sign documents transferring Bright Table’s patents and voting rights.

Olivia refused.

When Lily’s seventh birthday approached, Victor changed strategy. He planned to obtain control through the child instead.

Police recovered warehouse files linking fake school-meal deliveries to companies owned by Victor and Serena.

The unused supplies remained hidden while invoices were paid in full.

The foundation had reported millions of meals that were never served.

Olivia had discovered the fraud before the crash.

The aircraft had not failed by accident.

Maintenance records showed a fuel sensor was deliberately disabled.

A pilot managed an emergency landing, but Victor’s private ambulance reached the site before authorities.

Olivia was taken to Greenhaven under sedation.

The pilot disappeared.

It grew into a stolen life.
