Chapter 14 - Nora Testifies
Nora testified after her daughter, Elise, was born safely.
She refused to let prosecutors use photographs of her pregnancy in public exhibits.
Her body was evidence only where legally necessary.
Celeste’s attorney asked whether Nora had ever respected her mother-in-law.
“Yes.”
“Loved her?”
“Sometimes.”
“Accepted her help?”
“Yes.”
“Then why portray her as a calculating enemy?”
Nora answered:
“I am describing choices, not rewriting every day that came before them.”
The attorney displayed photographs of family holidays and company celebrations.
Nora did not deny the happy moments.
