The Diagnosis Before the Symptoms

Chapter 04 - The Diagnosis Before the Symptoms
Dr. Marcus Vale arrived at the hospital carrying Nora’s medical records.
Naomi intercepted him before he entered the examination room.
The records described prenatal paranoia, emotional instability, and fixation on imagined financial conspiracies.
Nora had never been examined privately by Vale.
Celeste attended every appointment.
The most damaging report was dated six weeks earlier.
It described symptoms Nora supposedly displayed after refusing the Helix merger.
That board meeting occurred four days after the report was signed.
The diagnosis existed before the behavior used to support it.
An independent obstetrician reviewed Nora’s bloodwork and found traces of a mild sedative not prescribed by her regular doctor.
Nora remembered the herbal pregnancy tea Celeste delivered each evening.
She had stopped drinking it two days earlier after noticing unusual bitterness.
Her thinking became clearer almost immediately.
Lucas sat outside the room listening.
For months, his mother had sent messages:
Nora is exhausted.
Nora forgot another appointment.
Nora is becoming suspicious.
He believed the reports because they were organized.
Nora’s own warnings arrived through interrupted calls and emotional fragments.
