The Company Nora Actually Owned

Chapter 03 - The Company Nora Actually Owned

Lucas Ashford publicly served as chief executive of Ashford Aegis Group.

Business magazines described him as the man who transformed a regional construction firm into a global smart-glass empire.

The transformation was real.

The ownership story was not.

Nora inherited fifty-one percent of Wells Aegis patents through her mother’s trust. When she married Lucas, she licensed those patents to Ashford Construction and helped create the combined company.

Lucas contributed sales, operations, and expansion.

Nora contributed the technology without which the company had little value.

Celeste never accepted that structure.

She believed her family name should control the company bearing it.

Nora’s pregnancy made the resentment urgent.

When the child was born, the trust would transfer Nora’s voting rights into a three-person stewardship board:

Nora.

An independent trustee.

And a patient-safety representative.

Celeste’s informal influence would end.

The merger she planned with Helix Capital had to close before the birth.

Nora opposed it because Helix intended to move manufacturing overseas and sell hospital-security data to private insurers.

Celeste needed Nora’s vote.

When persuasion failed, incapacity became the strategy.
