Claire Returns to Photography

Chapter 15 - Claire Returns to Photography
Claire’s professional licenses and accounts had been erased during her guardianship.
The new foundation offered her an executive position.
She declined.
“I exposed a family controlling stories. I should not become the next family member automatically placed above everyone.”
Claire returned to photography slowly.
She taught community classes and accepted independent assignments.
Her first exhibition featured empty rooms, unlabeled boxes, closed doors, and hands holding photographs just outside the frame.
No image showed Maisie’s face.
The exhibition was called Copies Without Owners.
Critics praised it.
Claire cared more that Maisie found the title pretentious.
They argued over dinner and laughed.
Ordinary disagreement felt like freedom after years when every objection became a symptom.
Claire joined the foundation’s image-rights committee for one elected term.
She helped create rules allowing children to withdraw consent from photographs even after a campaign began.
