The Marriage Merger

Chapter 05 - The Marriage Merger
The marriage register was more than a ceremonial document.
An appendix merged the Cole Media Foundation with Hale Children’s Renewal Network at the moment the couple legally married.
Victor had described the clause as administrative efficiency.
Its actual effect was broader.
All cameras, photographs, interviews, and identity records produced through Cole programs would become joint intellectual property.
Claire’s archive would fall under the merged board.
The Hale family would gain enough votes to classify the files as confidential child-welfare material.
Maisie’s identity could be sealed.
Claire’s medical record could remain under Hale guardianship.
The merger also redirected a protected endowment created by Adrian and Claire’s father.
If Claire lived, her shares returned to her.
If she had a child, that child became a protected beneficiary.
If Claire was declared incapable, the merged foundation’s medical committee would control her vote.
Dr. Mercer chaired that committee.
The wedding was not simply convenient timing.
It was the legal mechanism that would convert a hidden crime into protected family governance.
Adrian had signed the preliminary pages.
He had not read the full appendix.
Victor gave him a twelve-page summary and said the rest contained standard charity language.
Claire’s video addressed that weakness directly.
“You still read people’s faces faster than contracts,” she said. “They built the plan around it.”
Adrian did not defend himself.
He canceled the merger and froze every Cole transfer to Hale organizations.
The board warned that sudden action could disrupt services for thousands of children.

He appointed an independent administrator rather than closing programs.
Children would not become leverage for the adults who misused their records.
