The Body At Blackstone Cliffs

Chapter 11 - The Body At Blackstone Cliffs
The original investigation at Blackstone Cliffs had one unexplained detail.
Blood was found inside Claire’s car.
DNA technology at the time identified it only as female. Harold used the result to support the death theory.
New testing revealed the blood did not belong to Claire.
It belonged to a woman named Maria Torres, a housekeeper employed by Malcolm Crane’s family. Maria disappeared the same week.
Investigators reopened her case.
Records showed Maria had been treated for a hand injury at a private clinic. Harold’s team obtained a blood sample and placed it inside Claire’s vehicle. Maria later received money and moved to Argentina under another name.
She was alive.
In a recorded interview, Maria admitted participating under threat. She believed the staging involved insurance, not a woman’s disappearance. When she learned Claire was pregnant, she tried to contact police. Crane security intercepted her.
Maria still possessed a photograph taken during the operation.
It showed Claire standing beside a black car, visibly pregnant and terrified. Harold faced her. Malcolm Crane held documents.
The photograph ended any argument that Claire disappeared voluntarily.
Victoria’s attorneys now claimed she had no knowledge of the original staging.
Then investigators found her handwritten note on the back of Maria’s photograph.
Keep this outside Alex’s reach.
The note was dated three years after Claire vanished, before Victoria and Alexander married.
She had reviewed the evidence personally.
Noah stared at the image of his young mother.
For the first time, he saw the moment her life split in two.
Alexander stood beside him.
“I wish I had been there.”
Noah’s voice was quiet.
“She probably wished that every day.”

Neither blamed the other.
The blame finally had names.
