The Boardroom Heir

Chapter 08 - The Boardroom Heir

The Vale Shipping board met under emergency rules.

Reporters waited outside headquarters. Investors demanded confirmation about the alleged heir. Victoria’s family trust controlled two board seats and threatened litigation if Noah’s paternity filing moved forward.

Noah refused to attend.

“I am not walking into a boardroom so strangers can evaluate whether my face looks expensive enough.”

Alexander understood.

His attorney presented the DNA report and Harold’s trust amendment without turning Noah into spectacle. The board recognized the claim provisionally until probate court completed review.

Victoria’s voting authority over the disputed shares was suspended.

The balance of power shifted.

Malcolm Crane called from London and accused Alexander of emotional instability. He said Noah was manipulating grief and Claire had accepted money willingly.

Alexander recorded the call.

“Did your family create North Wind?”

Malcolm paused.

Then said, “Your father created necessity.”

That sentence became evidence.

The audit committee froze Crane-linked accounts. Three directors resigned. One admitted receiving payments to ignore trust irregularities.

Alexander proposed temporary shared governance with employees and independent trustees. The board expected him to seize full control.

He did not.

Harold’s power had enabled the disappearance. Victoria’s access had preserved it. Alexander would not repair centralization by becoming the next unquestioned ruler.

At Noah’s school, students waited outside his classroom with phones. The principal offered paid leave.

Noah declined.

He taught a lesson on vectors.

“Direction and magnitude are different,” he told the class. “A force can be powerful and still point the wrong way.”

The students understood more than the equation.

After class, Alexander waited in the parking lot but did not approach until Noah nodded.

“You used my mother’s phrase,” Alexander said.

“She used yours.”

They stood beside Noah’s old pickup.

Alexander offered him security because threats had begun arriving.

Noah agreed only if he chose the team and the company did not monitor him.

They negotiated like strangers learning family.

It was awkward.

That made it honest.
