Chapter 13 - The Mistress Takes the Stand

Vivienne testified under an agreement reducing her sentence.

She admitted designing the scene, preparing the documents, and coordinating Keller’s arrival.

The prosecutor asked why she calmly corrected the number.

“Because Julian kept changing instructions when angry. I wanted the recording consistent.”

“Consistent with what?”

“The written sequence.”

“So the demand was planned?”

“Yes.”

“Why choose a number so extreme?”

Vivienne looked toward Claire.

“Because if she later repeated it, people would think she was being dramatic.”

The courtroom became silent.

Disbelief was not an accidental benefit.

It was a design objective.

Vivienne admitted she selected the black dress for Claire because it concealed marks on camera. She ordered champagne for herself to appear relaxed. She positioned Julian under brighter lighting so viewers would see his exhaustion and read it as burden.

She called the method narrative control.

The prosecutor called it staging coercion.
