The Doctor Below the Penthouse

Chapter 05 - The Doctor Below the Penthouse
Dr. Adrian Keller waited inside a private suite on the eighty-first floor.
Police found him with a medical bag, unsigned clinic-admission forms, and a letter declaring Claire unable to understand complex financial decisions.
The report was dated that morning.
Keller had not examined Claire in eight months.
His earlier appointments documented insomnia, marital stress, and anxiety after learning of Julian’s affair. His private notes repeatedly stated:
ORIENTED.
UNDERSTANDS BUSINESS CONSEQUENCES.
NO PSYCHOSIS.
The new report described paranoia, aggression, and delusional beliefs about company theft.
Vivienne had written the summary and sent it to Keller for signature.
Another document authorized Claire’s transfer to Meridian Renewal Center, a luxury psychiatric facility partly owned by Vivienne’s brother.
The clinic contract allowed controlled communication, restricted visitors, and medication “as required for stabilization.”
Julian would remain her legal spouse.
He could approve treatment.
He could also vote her shares during documented incapacity.
Dr. Morris examined a small vial in Keller’s bag.
“What is this?”
“A routine calming agent.”
“Who prescribed it to Claire?”
Keller looked at Julian.
No one answered.
The plan required Claire to appear unstable, then become sedated, then have sedation documented as illness.
Medical language would transform resistance into pathology.
Gabriel’s face remained still while Keller explained.
Claire knew that stillness. Her father became quieter when anger approached precision.
He asked, “Doctor, were you planning to evaluate my daughter before or after the drug?”
May you like
Keller’s attorney instructed him not to answer.
The silence became part of the record.
