Celeste Faces the Recording

Chapter 12 - Celeste Faces the Recording

Celeste’s trial centered on the penthouse, the guardianship petition, and scholarship fraud.

Her attorneys displayed photographs of her taking Ava to museums, attending school plays, and decorating birthday cakes.

Some memories were genuine.

Ava had once trusted her.

That made the betrayal more serious.

Celeste testified that she loved the child but became overwhelmed by grief-related behavior.

The prosecutor asked why love required a forged psychiatric record.

Celeste blamed Victor.

Then the court played a message she sent Grant:

ONCE SHE SIGNS THE TANTRUM STATEMENT, THE GUARDIANSHIP LOOKS MEDICAL INSTEAD OF FINANCIAL.

The smart-glass recording followed.

Ava did not testify in open court.

Her recorded interview was reviewed privately.

Nathan testified about the sale and his signatures.

He admitted his failures without using them to reduce Celeste’s responsibility.

“I ignored my daughter’s attempts to reach me. I signed documents without reading them. Those choices helped her plan. They did not make the plan lawful.”

Celeste was convicted of child endangerment, coercion, fraud, forged medical documentation, and conspiracy.

At sentencing, she apologized to Ava.

The child was not present.

An apology did not require access to the person harmed.

Celeste received a substantial prison sentence and forfeited assets to scholarship restitution.
