Chapter 14 - Amelia’s Video
One year after the incident, Ava asked Nathan to watch Amelia’s archive video with her.
They sat in Rebecca’s living room.
Amelia appeared on screen wearing a blue scarf and the tired smile Nathan remembered from her final months.
She spoke first to Ava.
“You are not the keeper of my company, my reputation, or my unfinished work. You are a child allowed to become someone I never imagined.”
Then she addressed Nathan.
“I love you. I also know you move too quickly when slowing down might reveal pain.”
Nathan looked away from the screen.
Amelia warned that executives were using summary documents and medical language to hide the scholarship fraud.
She did not know whether Celeste would become part of Nathan’s life.
She knew Victor already controlled too much.
“If Ava brings you the blue key,” Amelia said, “do not ask why she waited. Ask what made speaking feel unsafe.”
The video ended with Amelia attempting to sew the school tie and pricking her finger.
Ava laughed.
Nathan cried quietly.
He did not ask his daughter to comfort him.
Afterward, Ava placed the video in the foundation’s restricted family archive.
She declined requests to release it publicly.
Her mother’s final words were evidence of intent.
