Nathan and Ava Return to Singapore

Chapter 18 - Nathan and Ava Return to Singapore
Seven years after the canceled sale, Ava traveled to Singapore with Nathan.
She was seventeen and had been selected for an international student-policy forum through an open application process.
Nathan attended as her guest, not as a company executive.
The conference took place in the same hotel where he had nearly signed away Amelia’s trust.
Ava asked to see the meeting room.
The table remained polished and anonymous.
Nathan showed her where the final contract had been placed.
“Did you read any of it?” she asked.
“The summary.”
“Mom was right about you.”
“Yes.”
They stood quietly.
Nathan no longer defended speed as leadership.
He had spent years rebuilding a relationship through predictable calls, school pickups, shared meals, and the willingness to hear no.
Ava chose to stay with Rebecca for much of childhood.
Later, she divided time between both homes.
Trust returned unevenly.
It never became automatic.
At the policy forum, Ava spoke about student ownership of education records.
She did not tell the penthouse story.
Her expertise did not depend on exposing private pain every time she entered a professional room.
Afterward, Nathan asked where she wanted dinner.
Ava chose a small noodle shop instead of the luxury restaurant booked by the hotel.

Nathan canceled the reservation.
They walked.
