The Husband Who Knew Before the Wedding

Chapter 06 - The Husband Who Knew Before the Wedding
Daniel had known Claire’s identity before they met.
Investigators found a genealogical report in his private office. It connected Claire Morgan to Eleanor and traced the land beneath the first Vale Crown hotel.
The report was dated fourteen months before Daniel introduced himself to Claire at a museum fundraiser.
Their meeting had not been accidental.
Daniel learned she worked as a conservator of architectural archives. He volunteered the company’s historical collection for preservation. He arranged dinners, offered access to old blueprints, and told her he admired women who protected forgotten histories.
He never mentioned that her own mother was the history he needed controlled.
At first, Daniel planned only to locate Eleanor’s papers.
Then he fell in love—or believed he did.
They married within a year.
Claire brought her mother’s suitcase into Hawthorne House.
Daniel searched it while she slept.
The original charter was not there.
After Robert began visiting Claire privately, Daniel understood his father intended to restore the shares.
That was when love became strategy again.
The forged medical narrative began after Claire questioned missing company files.
Dr. Keene documented anxiety.
Daniel described her research as obsession.
Helena told employees Claire was reliving childhood trauma.
When Claire threatened to contact an outside attorney, her car crashed on Blackwood Road.
Detective Lena presented the timeline in the hospital.
Claire stared at the genealogical report.
“He chose me before he knew me.”
Michael Grant answered carefully.
“He investigated you before meeting you. That does not prove every feeling afterward was false.”
Claire hated the complexity.
A simpler villain would be easier.
Daniel had held her through nightmares. He taught Sophie to ride a bicycle. He cooked pancakes badly and sang the wrong lyrics to every song.
He also drugged her tea, prepared a guardianship petition, and smashed a hallway to destroy evidence.
