He rejected the description.
At a public briefing, he admitted that Emily had tried to discuss Julian’s control years earlier.
Thomas responded badly.
He offered investigators, attorneys, and private security before asking what Emily wanted.
Julian used Thomas’s intensity to isolate her.
He said her father viewed marriage as another corporate asset.
Emily stopped answering calls.
Thomas then convinced himself that giving her space respected her adulthood.
In reality, distance protected him from hearing that his approach had failed.
“I arrived with a lawful team because the watch created immediate evidence,” Thomas said. “I did not arrive because I had consistently listened well.”
The admission angered Hart board members who wanted a clean family story.
Thomas also revealed his role in approving the trust’s guardian loophole.
He had signed the clause without independent review because Catherine’s illness made every decision feel urgent.
That signature gave Julian the mechanism he later weaponized.
Thomas resigned as temporary trust chair.
He transferred his voting authority to an independent custodian until the court could redesign the structure.
Emily did not tell him resignation erased his failure.
She did tell him the honesty mattered.
Their relationship restarted with weekly breakfasts.

No corporate updates unless Emily requested them.
When Thomas became impatient, she said so.
When Emily canceled a meeting, he did not send staff to check on her.
