Mason Faces the Recording

Chapter 13 - Mason Faces the Recording

Mason rejected an early plea offer.

He believed a jury would see him as a husband trapped between a demanding father and emotional wife.

The complete penthouse recording destroyed that strategy.

It showed him locking the doors.

It showed him placing the forged documents on the table.

It showed him lifting the cane while his parents encouraged him.

No physical strike occurred.

The law still recognized threats, confinement, fraud, and coercive control.

Elena testified without dramatizing.

She described the locked doors, frozen accounts, false psychiatric evaluation, and fear that any resistance would be used against her pregnancy.

Gabriel testified next.

Mason’s attorney tried to provoke him.

“Isn’t it true you wanted to attack Mr. Vale?”

“I wanted my sister safe.”

“That was not my question.”

“I felt anger. I followed the law anyway.”

The body-camera footage supported him.

Mason was convicted of fraud, unlawful confinement, conspiracy, and related offenses.

He received a substantial prison sentence.

At sentencing, he looked at Elena.

“I loved you.”

She replied, “You loved the version of me whose signature served you.”
