The DNA Test Charles Demanded

Chapter 11 - The DNA Test Charles Demanded

Charles’s attorneys requested a DNA test.

They hoped the result would contradict Rose’s claim or at least delay custody.

Rose agreed.

Samples were collected under independent supervision.

The result confirmed a 99.999 percent probability that Rose was Thomas’s biological mother.

It also confirmed Daniel as his father through preserved medical records.

Charles changed strategy.

He argued biology did not establish parental fitness.

Rose had worked as a maid, lacked wealth, and admitted removing Thomas without permission.

The state child advocate inspected Rose’s apartment.

It had one bedroom.

Rose slept on a sofa.

The refrigerator was full.

The school route was safe.

The neighbors knew her.

Thomas had spent years visiting the kitchen whenever he felt lonely. He trusted the cook, driver, gardeners, and Rose more than the formal family rooms.

The advocate wrote:

“The child’s primary emotional parent has been disguised as domestic staff by deliberate family policy.”

Charles called the report biased.

Then Thomas’s school counselor testified.

For years, he drew family pictures with Rose standing closest to him.

The woman labeled “Mother” stood far away in formal clothing.

When asked why Rose had no label, Thomas once said:

“Grandpa says servants don’t belong in family pictures.”

Charles lowered his eyes.

For the first time, shame appeared beside anger.

It came too late to undo anything.
