The Grandfather’s Offer

Chapter 08 - The Grandfather’s Offer

Charles requested a private conversation with Rose.

She refused until the judge allowed it under supervision.

Charles sat across from her in a conference room.

“I can restore your legal status and provide enough money for Thomas to live safely.”

“In exchange for what?”

“You withdraw the pension evidence and support a family settlement.”

Rose almost smiled.

“You are offering to stop denying I am his mother if I help you deny what you did to everyone else.”

“I did not kill Daniel.”

“You built the house where Richard believed murder was a business decision.”

Charles looked toward the observation glass.

“He is my grandson.”

“He is my son.”

“He carries my name.”

“He carries mine too. You removed it.”

Charles offered fifty million dollars.

Rose rejected it.

He offered the estate.

She rejected it.

He offered control of Thomas’s trust.

“That was never yours to offer.”

Charles’s composure broke.

“You cannot raise him in a servant’s apartment.”

Rose stood.

“A servant’s apartment is still a home if no one locks the bedroom before setting a fire.”

Charles went pale.

The nursery fire had not been ordered by Richard, who was already in custody.

Someone else inside the estate started it.

Charles’s private secretary, Helen Ward, disappeared the same night.

Helen had worked for him for twenty-four years.

She controlled household schedules, trust documents, and staff access.

Investigators found a bus ticket in her desk.
