The Custody Decision

Chapter 13 - The Custody Decision
Judge Eleanor Brooks delivered the custody ruling in the same courtroom where Thomas first pointed at Rose.
No reporters were permitted to photograph the child.
The judge recognized Rose Bennett Mercer as Thomas’s legal mother.
She voided the false birth certificate and sealed the fraudulent adoption.
Charles received no custodial authority.
Supervised visits could be considered only if Thomas requested them after therapy.
Thomas moved beside Rose before the judge finished speaking.
Rose held him.
The room remained silent.
The judge also ordered an investigation into every official who assisted the Mercer family.
The clerk who altered the marriage register had retired.
The hospital administrator who signed the false death certificate lived overseas.
The attorneys who drafted the adoption were still practicing.
Power had required many ordinary signatures.
The ruling did not call Rose victorious.
It stated that the court had corrected a legal identity after eight years of institutional failure.
Rose appreciated the wording.

Thomas had not been won.
He had been returned to himself.
