Evelyn’s Letter
Chapter 17 - Evelyn’s Letter
A final sealed letter from Evelyn was found in the Blue Room.
It was addressed to Rose.
Evelyn admitted jealousy.
She could not have children and convinced herself that loving Thomas justified keeping the truth hidden.
She also feared Charles would destroy her family if she refused.
“I became kind to him in private and cruel to you through silence,” she wrote.
Rose read the letter twice.
She placed it in Thomas’s archive for when he was older.
She did not forgive Evelyn completely.
She did not reduce her to a villain either.
People could love a child and still participate in stealing his life.
