The Hotel Under Lockdown

Chapter 10 - The Hotel Under Lockdown

Victor reached the Grand Meridian before police secured the tunnels.

He took the night staff hostage in the ballroom and demanded Adrian bring the Carter trust and Leo’s key.

No guests remained after the garage fire.

Only workers were trapped inside: housekeepers, cooks, desk clerks, and Evelyn Park, the custodian who saved the security recorder.

Victor considered them invisible enough to use.

Adrian entered the hotel alone, wearing no jacket and carrying a document folder.

Marcus and marshals monitored through Room 814’s hidden system.

Sofia remained with Leo at the church.

Victor stood on the ballroom stage.

“You always wanted to become legitimate,” he told Adrian. “Look how quickly law abandoned the workers when a gun entered the room.”

Adrian placed the trust on a table.

“You taught everyone here that their lives were expenses.”

“I paid them.”

“You owned their fear.”

Victor wanted Leo’s biometric authorization to transfer the Carter shares.

Adrian said the boy would not come.

Victor pointed toward Evelyn.

“Then someone else leaves in a bag.”

Adrian did not move.

Evelyn spoke first.

“Mr. Vale, the ballroom kitchen still uses the old gas alarm.”

Adrian understood.

She dropped a silver serving tray.

The sound activated a vibration sensor connected to the emergency ventilation system.

Marcus released harmless theatrical smoke through the stage vents.

Fire doors divided the ballroom.

Workers escaped through service passages they knew better than Victor.

Adrian reached the stage.

Victor fired once. The bullet struck a chandelier support.

Marcus tackled him from the side.

Police entered.

Victor was arrested beneath the gold ceiling he had used for decades to impress politicians and frighten employees.

The people he ignored had designed the escape.
