Fire Beneath the Hotel
Chapter 06 - Fire Beneath the Hotel
The garage fire began near the security archive.
Sprinklers failed to activate.
Adrian carried Leo down the emergency stairs while Marcus led Sofia through the service corridor. Hotel guests evacuated into the rain.
Firefighters reached the archive room before the flames spread to the fuel level.
Most servers were damaged.
One camera recorder survived because a night custodian named Evelyn Park removed it after noticing the sprinklers had been manually disabled.
Victor’s men tried to take the recorder from her near the loading dock.
Evelyn refused.
She had worked at the Grand Meridian for eighteen years and knew which executives ignored workers until they needed someone blamed.
The parking-lot footage showed Victor standing behind an SUV before Adrian arrived.
He spoke into his phone.
“Cross lost the woman. The boy has the key. Prepare the garage.”
The video proved the fire was planned before Victor entered Room 814.
Police chief Thomas Bell arrived and announced he would take over.
Sofia recognized him from one of Salvatore’s ledger photographs.
“He is on Victor’s payroll.”
Adrian faced Bell in front of reporters.
“The evidence remains with federal marshals.”
Bell reached toward his holster.
Marcus and the marshals stepped between them.
The confrontation was broadcast live.
Bell retreated, but the damage to Victor’s secrecy had begun.
By sunrise, employees from every Vale hotel received the parking-lot video and Salvatore’s confession through an anonymous email.
Leo had pressed a button on the toy car after the alarms began.
Salvatore’s program automatically distributed the files if the hotel network detected fire.
