The Trial of Victor Moretti

Chapter 12 - The Trial of Victor Moretti

Victor’s trial drew national attention.

Prosecutors charged him with conspiracy, kidnapping, financial crimes, attempted murder, and corruption.

Daniel Cross testified.

Maria Carter testified.

Hotel employees described false invoices and threats.

Evelyn Park explained how sprinkler controls had been disabled before the garage fire.

Sofia testified for two days.

Victor’s attorney portrayed her as a frightened accountant who changed stories whenever a powerful man offered protection.

Sofia answered:

“My story changed because powerful men kept changing my name, address, and official status. The facts did not.”

Adrian testified last.

He admitted leading the Vale organization after Salvatore’s death.

He described illegal gambling, intimidation, and payments he authorized before trying to move the company toward legitimate business.

Victor’s lawyer smiled.

“So you are a criminal accusing another criminal?”

“Yes.”

“Why should the jury trust you?”

“They should not trust my reputation. They should trust records that do not need me.”

The ledgers, recordings, and bank transfers filled the screen.

Victor was convicted on every major charge.

Several judges, police officials, and executives were arrested afterward.

Police chief Bell accepted a plea agreement.

The organization did not collapse with one verdict.
