The Foundation Hearing

Chapter 11 - The Foundation Hearing
A public hearing examined the Blackwood Children’s Fund.
Employees, teachers, foster parents, and former patients filled the county hall.
Lillian presented the hidden ledgers.
Victor testified about fake placements and stolen donations.
Beatrice’s attorney portrayed her as a loyal employee following Charles’s orders.
Emma did not testify in public.
Her recorded statement was played privately for the judge.
She described cleaning, missed school, hidden letters, and the mop that felt too heavy.
She did not exaggerate.
The simplicity made the facts harder to dismiss.
Adrian testified next.
He admitted ignoring warning signs before Lillian disappeared.
“I believed preserving confidence in the company protected employees and families. That belief allowed my father to decide which truths were dangerous.”
The foundation board removed every Blackwood family member from automatic control.
Charles’s assets were frozen.
Beatrice, Victor, clinic directors, and several trustees faced criminal charges.
The dormant shares linked to Emma were restored.
Under the original trust, she could claim personal ownership at eighteen.
Emma asked whether she could change the terms.
Her attorney said the court might approve a safer structure.
“I don’t want children’s money to become my mansion money.”
She proposed transferring the shares into an independent education trust with a small protected fund for her own needs.
