The Blue Truck

Chapter 07 - The Blue Truck
Marcus placed trackers on the estate’s remaining blue delivery trucks.
That night, one left the west gate without authorization.
It traveled to an abandoned textile warehouse.
Police found hundreds of boxes marked for rural schools: tablets, science kits, winter coats, and medical supplies.
Victor Shaw was inside destroying paper records.
He fled through a loading bay but left behind a ledger listing payments to judges, foster contractors, and private clinics.
One account belonged to a woman named Helen Reed.
The address led to a small farmhouse outside Cedar Ridge.
Adrian and Detective Ortiz arrived with a warrant.
The farmhouse was empty.
A kettle remained warm.
On the table sat a photograph of Emma cleaning the marble hall, taken through the mansion window.
Lillian had been watching.
A note beneath it read:
HE WILL HAVE TO CHOOSE THE CHILD OR THE COMPANY.
Adrian recognized the handwriting as his father’s, not Lillian’s.
Charles Blackwood had been declared dead four years earlier after a stroke.
His funeral had been private.
The body was cremated immediately.
Marcus checked hospital records.
Charles’s death certificate was signed by the director of Green Valley Recovery Center.
The same man who hid Lillian.
If Charles was alive, he might still control Victor and Beatrice.
