Graham On The Witness Stand

Chapter 13 - Graham On The Witness Stand
Graham was charged with fraud, evidence destruction, conspiracy, and reckless interference connected to Elias’s crash.
He denied intending death.
He admitted authorizing a software override to prevent the prototype from transmitting data to regulators. Elias discovered the override and planned to expose him. Graham ordered a remote shutdown, expecting the car to enter safe mode.
Instead, the disabled collision system failed during a high-speed turn.
The crash killed Elias.
Graham called it an accident.
Prosecutors called it foreseeable.
Claire testified about the archive, trust, and years of altered safety records. Samuel testified about the control-room laptop. Evelyn described the hospital threats.
Then Derek testified against his father.
Graham stared at him.
“I built your life.”
Derek’s voice shook.
“You built it where every door opened before I learned whether I deserved to enter.”
He admitted carrying the laptop without understanding its purpose. He admitted helping erase later evidence because Graham taught him family survival required obedience.
Graham’s attorney tried to portray Derek as a bitter son protecting himself.
Derek answered, “I am responsible for what I did after I knew enough. He is responsible for teaching me not to ask before then.”
The jury convicted Graham on every major financial charge and the reckless-interference count.
Before sentencing, Graham looked at Claire.
“Your father would have destroyed the company.”
Claire answered only when the judge invited her.
“My father believed a company that survives by hiding danger has already destroyed its purpose.”
Graham received a long prison sentence.

The verdict did not bring Elias back.
It did return his final warning to the public record.
