The Woman In The Service Bay

Chapter 08 - The Woman In The Service Bay
Elena Ruiz returned when the story reached the news.
She carried her daughter Mia in one arm and the original service invoice in the other. The passenger airbag light had reappeared the previous evening.
Claire personally inspected the vehicle with Samuel.
The recall component had never been replaced.
If Elena had experienced a serious collision, the passenger restraint system might have failed.
Derek stood at the service-bay entrance under legal supervision. He watched Mia draw circles on a waiting-room clipboard while adults examined the fraud attached to her mother’s car.
Numbers became faces.
Claire asked Elena whether she wanted to speak to reporters.
“No,” Elena said. “I want my car safe.”
That answer redirected the entire crisis.
The company announced an immediate free inspection for every vehicle touched by the fraudulent program. Loan cars were provided. Independent mechanics supervised repairs. No customer had to sign a release.
The cost threatened bankruptcy.
Graham’s attorneys argued the company should limit the program until liability was confirmed.
Claire refused.
“The liability already exists. We are deciding whether honesty arrives before another crash.”
Thousands of customers scheduled inspections.
Workers volunteered overtime but were paid full rates. Some executives complained the trust would collapse.
Mara reminded them the company was not entitled to survive by hiding danger.
Elena’s vehicle was repaired correctly.
Before leaving, Mia handed Claire the drawing from the clipboard. It showed a black car with enormous wings and a woman wearing a silver watch.
“You made the car wake up,” Mia said.
Claire smiled.
“No. Your mother made us tell the truth.”
She placed the drawing inside Meridian beside Elias’s letter.
