Victor Shaw’s Last Contract

Chapter 11 - Victor Shaw’s Last Contract
Victor Shaw disappeared after the Night House search.
Investigators found him at a regional airport carrying company drives and a passport under another name.
He offered to identify offshore accounts if prosecutors granted immunity.
They refused complete protection.
Victor cooperated anyway.
He admitted preparing Lydia’s false guardianship, altering Clara’s medical file, and arranging the bedroom transfer.
He claimed Eleanor directed everything.
The records showed Victor often proposed the methods.
He had built a career turning family preference into legal authority.
The biometric tablet in the bedroom contained twenty-three similar documents created for other Whitmore clients.
Victor called them emergency planning.
The people whose rights disappeared called them something else.
He also revealed that Thomas Whitmore’s death had been accelerated through excessive medication after Thomas attempted to expose Haven Ridge.
Eleanor approved the doctor’s authority but may not have ordered a fatal dose.
The investigation remained open.
Victor pleaded guilty to fraud, unlawful confinement, evidence tampering, and conspiracy.
His cooperation reduced but did not erase his sentence.
Before court, he told Daniel:
“Your mother made every decision because you never wanted to.”
Daniel replied:

“I am responsible for what I avoided. You are responsible for what you did.”
The distinction prevented guilt from becoming another way powerful people blurred individual choices.
