Clara Decides About Daniel

Chapter 13 - Clara Decides About Daniel
Clara returned to a protected apartment after leaving the hospital.
She did not return to Whitmore House.
Daniel asked what she needed.
“Distance. Complete access to every document you signed. And no private conversation with your mother about me.”
He agreed.
Clara filed for legal separation.
Daniel did not fight it.
They entered counseling focused first on parenting, not reconciliation.
Daniel admitted specific failures.
He dismissed Clara’s questions as stress.
He left for London after she asked him to stay.
He shared medical summaries with Eleanor without Clara’s permission.
He relied on Victor rather than reading the trust.
Clara did not reward honesty with immediate forgiveness.
Repair required repeated behavior.
Daniel moved into a small house near the apartment. He attended medical appointments only when invited. He arrived on time. He asked before touching Clara’s stomach.
When work delayed him once, he called and arranged the backup person Clara had chosen.
Three months after the trial, Clara allowed him to join dinner.
Six months later, she paused the divorce process but kept the separation agreement.
