The Child Arrives

Chapter 13 - The Child Arrives
Grace went into labor three weeks early.
Ryan stayed beside her.
No board members waited in the hallway.
No attorneys carried trust papers.
Grace had ordered the hospital to keep business away from the delivery floor.
Their daughter arrived healthy.
They named her Hope Ellis Sterling.
Eleanor requested permission to visit.
Grace said no.
Not forever.
For now.
Ryan held Hope near the window.
“She was almost born into a company designed to own her decisions.”
Grace touched the baby’s hand.
“She will inherit history, not obligation.”
The birth did not transfer corporate power because Grace had already activated the employee trust.
For the first time in generations, a Sterling child entered the world without shares assigned before a name.
Elena visited after two days.
She stood at the doorway and asked permission to enter.
Grace noticed the difference.
Elena did not claim motherhood as automatic access.
She sat quietly.
When Grace placed Hope in her arms, Elena cried.
“I kept trying to save children by hiding truth from them.”

Grace answered softly.
“Then help me raise one who does not need silence to feel safe.”
