Ryan’s Public Apology

Chapter 16 - Ryan’s Public Apology

Ryan returned to the estate staircase six months later.

The employee trust held a public hearing there because the mansion would become a training and archive center.

He stood where he had looked up at Vanessa with hatred.

“I decided guilt before evidence,” he said.

“I believed I was protecting my wife. In reality, I repeated the family habit of allowing emotion and status to replace investigation.”

He apologized to Vanessa publicly.

She accepted the apology without offering friendship.

Ryan also apologized to Grace.

She had watched him confront everyone except his own family until evidence forced him.

“I needed you to believe me before the archive believed me,” she said.

“I know.”

Their marriage survived, but not because the truth made everything clean.

They attended counseling.

They argued about Eleanor, work, and how much of Hope’s history to share.
