The Trial of Nathan Cross

Chapter 14 - The Trial of Nathan Cross

Nathan’s trial focused on the difference between plan and consequence.

His attorney argued that he intended only a public incident: a loose railing, a frightening moment, and a delayed announcement.

The prosecutor showed messages in which Nathan discussed Grace’s medical schedule and early labor risks.

He understood the danger.

Olivia testified through a recorded interview with her face protected.

She described pulling the wire and her father choosing not to warn anyone afterward.

Nathan watched without expression until Olivia said:

“He told me families survive when children keep secrets.”

Then he lowered his head.

The jury convicted him of sabotage, fraud, child endangerment, and related charges.

He received a long prison sentence.

Eleanor pleaded guilty to conspiracy and financial fraud.

Her sentence included prison, asset forfeiture, and a permanent ban from corporate leadership.

She addressed Grace before sentencing.

“I loved my family.”

Grace replied, “Love without limits became permission.”

Eleanor did not ask for forgiveness.

That was the first honest thing she gave them.
