The Hangar Ledger

Chapter 05 - The Hangar Ledger
Police stopped the jet before takeoff.
Vanessa claimed she was traveling for a business meeting.
Dr. Danner said he planned to attend a medical conference.
Ethan insisted he came only to retrieve company documents.
Detective Ortiz searched the aircraft under warrant.
Inside a locked cabinet, officers found passports, bearer bonds, medical files, and a handwritten ledger.
The ledger tracked payments from Sterling Hotels into shell charities. Some entries went back twenty-five years.
One line carried Claire Vale’s name.
Beside it was a payment marked FINAL SETTLEMENT.
Eleanor stared at the date.
It was the night Claire and infant Olivia supposedly died in the boat accident.
Olivia felt the room tilt.
“Did Ethan’s father pay someone to kill us?”
Eleanor answered carefully.
“We know money moved. We do not know why.”
Vanessa requested immunity before speaking.
Ortiz refused.
Ethan blamed Vanessa.
Dr. Danner blamed Ethan’s father, Richard Sterling.
Every adult in the hangar discovered someone more powerful to accuse.
The ledger contained another secret.
For six years, Sterling Hotels had collected employee pension contributions but transferred much of the money into private development accounts.
Ethan had signed the latest transfers.
He could not blame his father for those.
Olivia asked why he needed her shares if the company owned so many hotels.
“Because most of the buildings are mortgaged twice,” Eleanor said. “Without the Vale land, Sterling Hotels is an expensive name attached to debt.”
The empire Olivia had married into was already hollow.
Her inheritance was the only foundation still capable of holding it up.
The state froze Ethan’s accounts.
Vanessa and Danner were detained.
Ethan remained free pending charges because his attorneys argued the forged documents required deeper review.

He returned to Sterling Manor.
Then he ordered every room emptied before Olivia could claim the property.
